Yesterday, on 9th of November the US presidential election took place. Donald Trump won 276 of electoral votes and thus became the 45th president of the United States. In comparison his main rival Hilary Clinton received 218 votes. The new president will be sworn into office on 20 January, 2017. Whereas, the new Vice President-elect nominated by Trump is the Indiana governor Mike Pence. He is known as the representative of the most conservative wing of the Republican Party.

However, today in Hungarian Parliament MPs rejected the amendment as a result of the voting. Ruling coalition of the Fidesz- Hungarian Civic Union party and the Christian Democratic People's Party (KDNP) consists of 131 members in the Parliament, while 133 votes were needed to achieve a two-thirds majority required to make any modifications of the constitution. Among 199 MPs only 134 members have voted, whereas the rest of the assembled company abstained from voting.

British Prime Minister Theresa May had already decided that by the end of March the governement will trigger Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty to leave the EU and formally notify the EU of the UK`s intention to leave. Then once Art. 50 would be invoked, May plans on negotiating the Brexit for two years until 2019. But now the High Courts judgment ruled that May cannot bypass the Parliament. It has been ruled that the Prime Minister does not have the right to trigger Article 50 without parliamentary approval and involving the votes of MEPs and peers.

After difficulties due to the veto from Belgium`s Wallonia, the deal was signed with a three-day delay. On Sunday, the top representatives of both parties finally signed the seven- year long negotiations about CETA. In a vote of confidence, a simple majority of MEPs voted in favor of the 61-year-old in Madrid and freed the way for a minority government of his conservative People's Party. 170 deputies voted in favor of Rajoy and 111 against him. There were 68 abstentions. Rajoy's election had become possible because the opposition Socialists had urged their deputies to abstain from the voting.

If they agree, the road to signing the CETA agreement at EU level will be free.
