Montenegro Parliamentary elections were held on 16th of October, 2016. The night before twenty Serbs were detained on a charge of terrorist activity according to the coup d’état attempt. DPA agency informed that also on the territory of a neighboring Serbia several arrests took place.On Sunday, the Montenegrin Chief Special Prosecutor for organized crime and corruption Milivoje Katnić said that during the election day armed Serbian citizens made an attempt to overthrow the government of Montenegro. The Serbian group was organized and led by the Russian Nationalists. "We have evidence that two nationalists from Russia were organisers," Mr Katnić said.
Democratic Party of Socialists whose leader is Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic have won the parliamentary elections and will continue pro-European politics which is strongly criticized by the pro-Russian Democratic Front. Arrested Serbs are associated with the opposition and accused of an assassination attempt on Mr Djukanovic.
Russia, which has also been accused of funding the anti-NATO campaign before the Montenegrin parliamentary election denied having anything to do with the matter.
