On October 27 in New York United Nations disarmament and international security committee has called a meeting concerning the problem of a nuclear arms prohibition. Negotiations on a treaty to ban all nuclear weapons was initiated by Austria, Brazil, Ireland, Mexico, Nigeria and RPA. As a result of the meeting 123 states voted in favor of the resolution, 38 were against and 16 abstained from voting. Nations which have an access to nuclear weapon, among others, USA, Great Britain and France were opposed to the negotiations.

Moreover, the idea of disarmament met with strong opposition from Russian side. Director of the Foreign Ministry Department for Non-Proliferation and Arms Control Mikhail Ulyanov declared that the resolution is not realistic and impractical.

In response to the negative opinions of nuclear powers executive director of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, Beatrice Fihn argued that, "This treaty won't eliminate nuclear weapons overnight. But it will establish a powerful, new international legal standard, stigmatizing nuclear weapons and compelling nations to take urgent action on disarmament."

To sum up, during yesterday’s summit country representatives reached a decision to organize conference on the subject of nuclear arms ban in 2017. Negotiations are scheduled for March 15 and will continue in June and July. Final project is going to be discussed during the UN General Assembly in December.
