Yesterday, on 9th of November the US presidential election took place. Donald Trump won 276 of electoral votes and thus became the 45th president of the United States. In comparison his main rival Hilary Clinton received 218 votes. The new president will be sworn into office on 20 January, 2017. Whereas, the new Vice President-elect nominated by Trump is the Indiana governor Mike Pence. He is known as the representative of the most conservative wing of the Republican Party.
As the democrats campaign team confirmed, straight after the announcement of the election results Hilary Clinton has rang to Donald Trump and congratulated him on the victory. Also the European Union leaders, i.e. Donald Tusk, Jean-Claude Juncker and Martin Schulz have congratulated Republican leader and invited him to the next EU summit. However, news about the winner of the election did not satisfy all of the US citizens. In the city of Oakland Trump’s opponents took to the streets and caused some riots.
“To all Republicans and Democrats and Independents across this nation, I say it is time for us to come together. Now it’s time for America to bind the wounds of division…,It is time for us to come together as one united people.” Donald Trump said in his first speech as President-Elect.
