In a televised press conference on Monday, electoral authorities said that opponents managed to collect enough signatures to begin the process to recall President Nicolas Maduro. According to the National Election Council (CNE) 407.622 signatures were collected with only 1.326 instances of voter identity fraud.
On Wednesday, the pro tempore presidency of Mercosur has been transferred to Venezuela despite objections of right-wing governments in the region. In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry of Uruguay, there are no legal impediments to prevent Venezuela from having the presidency, despite Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay opposing it. Rodolfo Nin Novoa, Uruguay's Foreign Minister announced he had notified other foreign ministers of the member states, as well as presented a report on the activities during their period ahead of the bloc.

On Saturday, workers of community and alternative media outlets protested in the streets of Buenos Aires demanding payment of government funded programs for non-profit media, mandated under the country’s media law. They claim payments have been delayed since Macri made changes in the media legislation when he took office in December.
