On Saturday, workers of community and alternative media outlets protested in the streets of Buenos Aires demanding payment of government funded programs for non-profit media, mandated under the country’s media law. They claim payments have been delayed since Macri made changes in the media legislation when he took office in December.
President Mauricio Macri decimated media law by establishing a decree that transformed two regulatory agencies into a new entity known as the National Agency of Telecommunications, overturning, as a consequence, the 2009 media law that sought democratization of media outlets by ordering the breakup of media monopolies.
