The October Revolution in Russia was a harbinger of a new era. The changes which followed afterwards, altered the old world completely. Turkey and the Austro-Hungarian Empire collapsed, Germany changed its political system, new countries appeared, Poland regained independence. After 100 years, an uneasy feeling has been bothering us that another epoch is coming to an end. What will the XXI century look like and what configuration of power will it bring?

With the theme of "Creating New Dynamism, Fostering A Shared Future", this year’s APEC Summit will take place in Da Nang. The Summit will bring together APEC Leaders from the world’s most dynamic economies, speakers from the top global companies, international media moderators and over 1,000 CEOs from across the Asia-Pacific region. The program will feature three days of discussions, presentations and dialogue on a wide range of issues that promote economic dynamism and sustainable growth. Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation is an international forum created in 1989 to enable cooperation, trade and investment in the Asia Pacific region. 

Conflicts on the South China Sea continue deteriorating relations not only between Asian country, but also in the West. The EU countries seem to be guided by their own interests on that matter - said Dr. Malgorzata Bonikowska, the CIR president during the conference "EU-ASEAN. Models of integration", organised by the Faculty of Political Science of Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin. The conference, held on 18-20 September, seeked to bring together the academia and practitioners focused on integration processes in the EU and ASEAN. 

In celebration of the 50th founding anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the ASEAN Committee in Warsaw (ACW) in cooperation with the Centre for International Relations and Lazienki Krolewskie Museum organised a Seminar and expert discussion, which took place on the 13 of September in Palace on the Isle in Lazienki Park.  The founding of ASEAN raised the political, social and cultural dimensions of relations between Southeast Asian nations to a new, much higher level.

Polish society is very divided and these divisions go even further now. No one says that the ruling party shouldn't propose the changes, but the way the party in power is doing it is very controversial and needs a wide political debate. Unfortunately, the government doesn't want to discuss. This is why people all over the country decided to go to the streets and protest. Polish society is very much for the dialogue - this is how the transformation process started - said dr Małgorzata Bonikowska in an interview for BBC News.

Centre for International Relations, together with Konrad Adenauer-stiftung in Poland, Polska Debatuje Foundation and Lazienki Krolewskie Museum organised a panel discussion concerning the White Paper on the Future of Europe issued by the European Commission. Marek Prawda, Head of Representation of European Commission in Poland made a keynote speech.

Today Japan wants to focus on the improvement in Sino-Japanese relations and on protecting a rule-based order - said prof. Akio Takahara during the expert debate organised by the CIR and the Center for Europe of Warsaw University.
