The U.S. and China, facing mounting political pressures at home, are seeing economic tensions flare to their worst point in years over currency and trade practices. Yuan achieved its minimum against the US dollar for the last 5 years. American enterprises accuse China on currency manipulation for the sake of a competitive advantage of Chinese goods. Domestic politics in both countries collide with already weak growth, what could escalate existing tension between the world’s two largest economies. The United States want China to implement promised policies to open up its markets and allow greater international investment.
Read MoreOn 2 June 2016 the German Parliament passed a resolution in which it recognized the Armenian Genocide of 1915-1916 committed by Ottoman Turkish forces. It stated it held responsibility for these massacres as well since they were aligned with the Ottoman Empire at the time. The resolution has led to outcry in Turkey, that still has not recognised these events as a genocide. Turkish President Erdogan reacted fiercely and threatened there would be consequences for Turkish-German relations as he already summoned the German ambassador in Ankara. The move could further undermine the EU-Turkey refugee agreement as well, which was already under pressure following the resignation of the Turkish Prime Minister Davutoglu earlier on 5 May that brokered the deal.

The Beirutis’ List, supported by former Prime Minister Saad Hariri, has dominated the capitale’s elections despite a strong opposition by Beirut Madinati, according to the official final results showed on Tuesday. As for the North of the country, an underdog list backed by emerging Sunni politician Ashraf Rifi won a majority of seats on the council elected in Tripoli, Lebanon’s second largest city, against a coalition of former prime ministers, billionaires and Islamists. This election involved alliances, results, and repercussions on the political stage. It has marked a blow for the lebanese establishment, in particular the long in power Sunni leaders in the northern part. It might revive tensions between rival sectarian groups. Early results indicated that none of the 24 seats on the council were won by members of the Christian or Alawite communities which were both represented in the outgoing council.

Member states of EU considered that Serbia is ready t open those chapters. Serbia proposed to solve the serbian-croatian issues in the regional context. Croatia blocking opening of these two chapters justified it by non-respecting the Croats minority rights in Serbia and made an objection for serbian judiciary system. It expected also that Serbia better cooperates with International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. The opening of those two chapters will take place in the end of June.

In this recording Silveira makes critics over the Operation Car Wash (Lava Jato) - an investigation that has been carried out by the Federal Police of Brazil since March 2014 over money laundering and corruption allegations at the state-controlled oil company Petrobras. The biggest Brazilian television network TV Globo broadcasted the recording and the newspaper O Globo printed an additional editorial demanding Silveira's resignation.

During a time of political crisis which is partly caused by the spill-over from Syria’s civil war, Lebanon has been suffering from a Presidential vacancy since 2014 and multiple postponements of Parliamentary elections since May 2013 until at least June 2017. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Interior, 5,976 candidates were running for seats in 273 municipal councils and 1,553 candidates ran for 740 mayoral seats. The municipal elections were organized for four weeks in May with the last one ending on the 29th of May in the North Lebanon and Akkar regions. The results of the elections will be posted as soon as they are made available.

After the President had earlier sacked his government on the 12th of May, he had called on his ruling African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC) to select a new cabinet that would pull the country out of its current political crisis. With his Presidential decree, the President has ignored his own party who claim to not support Baciro Dja, who held the same position briefly last year but was removed when the supreme court decided his placement was unconstitutional. Repeating earlier mistakes, political parties were again not consulted with the placement of new political actors as the country’s political crisis is spiraling downwards. The UN Security Council has said it will take actions to prevent a crisis and calls on the country’s military not to intervene in the political conflict.

Earlier talks seemed to have stalled following an earlier incident in which the Turkish-Cypriot leaders was invited to a state dinner on 23 May for heads of state during the Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul. The move was considered as a breach of protocol since officially the Greek-Cypriot President is the official head of state of Cyprus. Efforts by both the UN and the Vice-President of the US Joe-Biden had encouraged Anastasiades however to resume the peace process, which was given impetus earlier this year in January.
