Prime Minister Narendra Modi, leader of the current ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in India, declared a new opening in the central government's policy towards the eight north-eastern states (the so-called Eight Sisters). Before entering the Indian Union, they were separate entities and there are still local separatist movements present there. The "Act East" program is a continuation of a program announced by the previous BJ party in-office in the 90s - "Look East". Modi visited 4 states for several days, where he inaugurated a new rail line in Assam, gave a speech at the end of the Sangai festival in Inphal, the capital of Manipur, and opened the Hornbill festival in Kohima, the capital of Nagaland.

At the same time, Sumitra Mahajan, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha (the lower house of the Parliament of India), came to Nagaland in regard to the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the state. The ceremony was attended by CIR's President, dr Małgorzata Bonikowska. She also met with the PM of the Nagaland state as well as with the Deputy PM of the Manipur state and local parliamentarians.
