In the afternoon of 6 August, opposition forces attacking from the South-west managed to break through the blockade of the city and established contact with eastern districts, which were under siege by the government forces since mid-July. This is a major achievement of a week-long offensive and will enable the opening of a supply route to rebel-controlled parts of the city. The rebel takeover of Ramouseh districts also threatens the supply to government-help Western Aleppo and can thus turn the tide of the battle for the city.

Kayed was detained by the British mandate regulations, which allow detention for years without pausing accusations or referring to the court. Administrative detention is permitted under international law under narrowly defined states of emergency. But according to the Palestinian rights group Addameer, Israel use the administrative detention in a way, which violates the international law.

The air strikes were made in support of the offensive of Government of National Accord forces’ offensive that have been attempting to take control of the city for several months. Jordan-based US drones were used for the first time in this operation which targeted ISIS military vehicles and strongpoints in strategic areas of the city. US warplanes have carried out seven air strikes in total over the two days.
