On Monday, 1 of August the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of United States of America – general Joseph Dunford visited Turkey. He made a visit to Ankara and Turkish Parliament. He observed the Turkish House of Parliament, which was damaged during the coup attempt in 15 of July, and conducted talks with the Prime Minister of Turkey – Binali Yildirim. Joseph Dunford condemned the coup attempt in Turkey, but in the case of extradition query for Fethullah Gulen, he stated that query will be reviewed under the law of USA, and the decision will be independent and without the political pressure.
Demonstrations started before the Dunford’s arrival near the US embassy. Demonstrations were organized by the Motherland party. Protesters condemned CIA and United States Armed Forces for the participation in the coup attempt. One of the protesters described the Dunford’s visit as following „He arrived in Turkey to perform the splitting of the country. As you know, 15 of July 2016 occurred coup attempt in Turkey, which was organized and inspired by USA and Fethullah Gulen”.
At the same time, the Turkish government is continuing arrests of suspected followers of the coup attempt. In South-Western part of Turkey, 11 soldiers from special forces were arrested on suspicion of participating in an operation of overthrowing of Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Minister of Defense – Fikri Isik – stated, that 300 soldiers are wanted.
