During the G20 summit India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has condemned international terrorism, pointing towards Pakistan for supporting it. He said that only 'one single nation in South Asia is spreading the agents of terror'. Modi’s remarks come undoubtedly as a response to the recent crisis in Kashmir. The Indian Prime Minister stated that his country has a zero policy for terrorism and urged the international community to follow suit. Modi expressed his appreciation for the G20s initiative to end the financing of terrorism, but added that all countries should meet the Financial Action Task Force standards. One day earlier Modi made a similar speech in a separate meeting with fellow members of the BRICK group.

Yesterday the US and India signed a milestone logistic agreement, known as LEMOA. It is a step towards increasing defense ties between the two countries. It has been India’s concern that the agreement would not include the stationing of American troops in its military bases. This saturday, for the first time since tensions in Kashmir broke out in July, Jammu and Kashmir State Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti met the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the meeting teh Chief Minister presented her “three-pronged action plan” to settle the conflict in Kashmir. In her speech following the meeting Mufti supported PM Modi. She said that: ‘The Prime Minister is very concerned about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir like we all are. (...) The Prime Minister wants this bloodshed to end so that the State comes out of the present turmoil’. Only a few days after North Korea has been once again threating of a nuclear attack on the South, another potential risk rises in the region. Today North Korea has fired what is believed to be a KN-11 submarine launched ballistic missile, which flew 500 km towards Japan and entered the country’s air defense identification zone. Pakistani paramilitary forces have taken over the offices of the MQM (Muttahida Qaumi Movement) party in Karachi. Consequently five of the party leaders have been arrested. The turbulences followed a violent crush of the MQM workers on the ARY News television office, allegedly called for by MQM chief Altaf Hussain. Hussain accused the media of not covering a six-day hunger strike. According to the Pakistani sources Hussain is guilty of expressing anti-Pakistani slogans.

North Korea has yet again threatened with a nuclear attack on Washington and Seoul. It is happening as the US and South Korea began the annual military drills today, known as the Ulchi Freedom Guardian manouveres. South Korea’s unification minister has expressed his regret when hearing of the nuclear threat, and reassured that it is not in the intention of South Korea or the US to stage an attack on the North. This information seems to come at a fateful time, when the US is planning to place a high-tech defense missile system in South Korea and following the defection of North Korean diplomat Thae Yong Ho. The president of South Korea has concluded that there are ‘serious cracks’ among the North Korean ruling elite and the authorities could be likely to carry out some action to divert the public attention from problems within the party.
