The ninth president of Israel, Shimon Perez died in the 94th year of his life. Today, his body will be buried in Jerusalem on Mount Herzl. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the head of the Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas shook hands before the start of the funeral. The former leader of the Jewish state of Israel died on 28 September. Peres - one of the founding fathers of Israel, participated in the signing of an agreement on the establishment of Palestinian autonomy in 1994.

Leaders of many countries arrived in Jerusalem to honor his memory - former and current US Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, French President Francois Hollande and his predecessor Nicolas Sarkozy, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, head of the European Commission, Donald Tusk, and the head of the diplomacy of the European Union Federica Mogherini. At the funeral also came the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands, King Philip VI of Spain, the Prince of Wales Charles, and the Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry.

The last time Netanyahu and Abbas shook hands in Paris in November 2015 on the sidelines of the climate change UN World Conference. This was the first time in five years.
