Turkish government issued an order to arrest 42 journalists – informs Turkish media channel NTV. It is the next stage of repression in Turkey after the coup attempt on 15 July 2016. Orders for arrest are also concerned the former member of the Turkish parliament and famous commentator Nazli Ilicak, who is claimed to be a leading figure of Turkish media environment. In 2013 she was fired from pro-governmental media service „Sabah” due to the critics of the ministers, who were involved in the corruption scandal.
19 of July 2016 the High Council of Radio and Television withdrew licences from all TV and radio channels. Decree concerned 24 radio stations and channels, 34 journalists were deprived of licenses. Turkish authorities claim that journalists and channels are related with the „Hizmet” movement, whose leader is Fethullah Gulen.
