WikiLeaks was blocked 20th of July by the Turkish telecommunication authorities (TIB). Turkish authorities told that it was “administrative measure”. Around 300,000 emails of AKP ((Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi) Justice and Development Party) were released by the WikiLeaks after the coup attempt in Turkey. Emails came from the akparti.org.tr – main domain of AKP. Emails are ranging from 2010 to 6th July 2016. As the source of the released documents mentioned, it is a revenge for the Erdogan’s purges after the coup attempt.
Turkish officials stated, that they blocked WikiLeaks website due to the fact, that the content (emails) were stolen and obtained illegally. WikiLeaks was blocked to secure the privacy and personal data, such as phone numbers or email addresses.
*AKP – Justice and Development Party, was founded in 2001 by the current President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the previous President of Turkey – Abdullah Gul. It is a conservative democratic party. Currently, AKP has the majority in Turkish Parliament and local municipalities.
