New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is investigating Trump’s charitable foundation with a suspect on impropriety. Eric Schneiderman said his office wanted to make sure the foundation is "complying with the laws that govern charities in New York" "My interest in this issue really is in my capacity as regulator of nonprofits in New York state. And we have been concerned that the Trump Foundation may have engaged in some impropriety from that point of view," the elected Democratic official said.
The inquiry comes from the series of reports by The Washington Post which claim that Trump spent money from his charity, The Donald J. Trump Foundation, on his own needs using “donations” to recycle others' contributions to make them appear to have come from him and hasn't given to the foundation since 2008.Moreover, later was reported that the recipients of five charitable contributions listed by the Trump Foundation had no record and confirmation of receiving those donations.
The donation from Trump Foundation to a group backing Republican Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi in 2013 is mainly under investigation. The $25 000 payment was made at a time when Mrs. Bondi's office was officially reported about willing to open a fraud investigation into Trump University. The fraud investigation never happened, however, Mrs. Bondi denies the decision was influenced by the donation she received.
The US Justice Department has been asked by Democrats in the House of Representatives to investigate the $25,000 donation to Pam Bondi.
