On 19 April 2016, US primaries were held in the state of New York. As expected and confirmed in recent polls, both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton secured their victories. Donald Trump won by an astonishing percentage of 60,4%, leaving John Kasich and Ted Cruz far behind him with 25,1% and 14,5% respectively. Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, secured a victory of 58%, compared to 42% for Bernie Sanders.
The victory for Hillary Clinton means an end of the former winning streak of Bernie Sanders, that was getting momentum before and had won several states. Furthermore, Donald Trump seems to be more and more likely to become the nominee for the Republicans, making a face-off between Clinton and Trump later on this year more realistic, even though Donald Trump could still be stopped during a so called "contested convention" if the other candidates, John Kasich and Ted Cruz, can take enough delegates away from him.
The primaries in New York were also criticized as a lot of the ballots that were being casted by Democrat voters, were not registered in the end. An official investigation has been launched.
