Recently, Serbia and Hungary have agreed for the Hungarian police officers to be deployed at the Serbian-Bulgarian border. During the press conference on the 8th of September, the Interior Minister of Serbia, Nebojsa Stefanovic, invited France and Austria to follow suit and to send their police contingent to help Serbia controlling the borders because Serbia expects an intensification of migration flow in the coming months. At summer, migrant flaws were mainly directed to Italy and Greece as they could reach these countries by sea. Nowadays, as autumn comes, the travel by the sea becomes even more dangerous, therefore, the route to the EU by land through the Balkans could start to be very appealing again.

Since the 22nd of July, 6,500 migrants tried to cross Serbian border. However, in recent five days, more than 1,000 attempted to cross the border. Last autumn, hundreds of thousands of migrants crossed the Balkans' borders.

Mr. Stefanovic also underlined that it is not Serbia who is responsible for the outbreak of the migrant crisis, thus, Serbia is not going to solve the problem on its own.

The Croatian Interior Minister, Vlaho Orepić, declared that they also noticed the increased influx of migrants on the Serbian border during the last two mounts. Nevertheless, Mr. Orepić does not think that there is a threat of reactivation of the Balkan route.
