According to a national plan of action published on Thursday in the area of human rights in China, the country will invite representatives of the Human Rights Council in the future to discuss the human rights situation in China. The plan, published on the Xinhua News Agency, regulates the different spheres of implementation of human rights in China in the period from 2016 to 2020. "China will work with the experts of the special procedures UN Human Rights Council to respond to their letters, and invite their representatives to China in case of need", - said in the text of the plan. It notes that China will also encourage Chinese experts for positions in the special procedures department.
Chinese authorities intend to make exchanges and strengthen cooperation with the Council of the UN Human Rights, to participate actively in the international work on human rights, meet their obligations under international conventions, to conduct human rights dialogues, as well as to provide technical assistance in the field of human rights to needy developing countries.
In early July, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon visited China, where during a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, in particular, underlined the need to promote the foundations of the United Nations Charter - peace and security, development and human rights, and "underlined the readiness of UN to continue to work with the Chinese government" to reach those goals.
