Hinkley Point C will replace the existing nuclear power plant, which exploitation date will end in 2023. The UK government has approved project for the construction a nuclear power plant Hinkley Point with value of 18 billion pounds (24 billion dollars). The main part of funding for the project will provide the French company Electricite de France (EDF), the rest one-third of the sum will be provided by Chinese investors through the state company China General Nuclear.

Nuclear power plant in Hinkley Point (Somerset county) will be the first constructed in the country nuclear power plant since 1995. Hinkley Point C will be built next to the existing Hinkley Point B, which must cease exploitation in 2023.

Launch of a new nuclear power plant is scheduled for 2025. According to the plan, the power plant must work for 60 years.

EDF manages 15 nuclear reactors in the UK. The government of France owns 81% of EDF.
