France decided to take a look at the previous investigation of an assassination of the Rwandan president, Juvenal Habyarimana, that happened in 1994. The plane with the president on board was shot allegedly by soldiers from Hutu tribe. Reopening the case is strongly criticized by the current state’s authorities. This tragic incident sparked off the country’s genocide. The purpose of the revived investigation is to interrogate a dissident general, Faustin Kayumba Nyamwasa. He claims that current president Paul Kagame is responsible for the assassination. President strongly contradicts these allegations. 

President argues that Rwandan juridical system is not dependent on France thus, there is no explanation why Paris wants to get involved in this case. It is not the first time when France appeal for reanalysing the accident of the French-crewed plane. In 2006, a french judge called for Kagame to stand trial.

Faustin Kayumba Nyamwasa is a former chief of army staff. He has been suspecting that Kagame that he took an essential part in conducting the attack. Rwandan president claims that shooting down was prepared by Nyamwasa’s supporters who weren’t content with a peace agreement Nyamwasa had negotiated with Kagame's rebels.
