President Idriss Deby Itno of Chad, has been sworn in for a fifth consecutive five-year term despite the protests leading by opposition. Latest elections has been contested by Deby’s political rivals. President Deby came to power in 1990 after overthrowing the then president Hissene Habre. According to the national election commission he won the April 10, 2016 elections in the first round with 59.92 percent of the votes against almost 13 percent for opposition leader Saleh Kebzabo.
After being sworn he pledged to continue with the work of modernizing the country's infrastructure and reinforce peace and security. He also promised to continue promoting transparency in the spending of public resources.
Despite of recent conflict between two groups involved into chadian political reality, the opposition coalition has called for an inclusive dialogue with the government.Saleh Kebzabo an opposition leader ephasized that such a dialogue should be conducted under the auspices of (international) partners of Chad.
Recently, after his inaugation, president Deby has met with French president Francois Hollande at the Elysee Palace on Saturday. They share the same attitude that the most crucial and neuralgic emerging problems are both the fight against Boko Haram and the Lake Chad region’s security.
The two presients agree to work closely on strengthening and supporting to the African force including logistical support, supply of information, donation of equipment and training.
